Reflection #4

Delmy Del Cid
After reading Hilma Wolitzer’s “Embarking together on solitary journeys”, I am afraid of

being put down because of my writing skills. Also I am also afraid that I will not having anyone

by my side throughout this time of need. Being afraid of being put down by other better writers

is one of my reasons why I am so afraid. “But in my experience just a handful of workshop

students ever exhibit such talent, and we all know of gifted writers who work well without the

benefit of organized groups or individual mentors” (page 263) I am excited about collaborations

that other students get to help each other out and correct each other.

Myself as a writer, I have a lot of mistakes and that includes sentence structure. I want to

improve all of this because I believe that I can change my writing skills if I have someone to help

me out. “Most writes’ heart are divided by ambition and self-doubt? (Page 264) I plan on

achieving this by learning from different people with different skills and use what I learned from

them to make my writing better. Learning from different writings gets you to think that the

opinions of others are difficult to understand but sometimes the truth hurts and it has to come

out sometime.” You must ask yourself if you really want an honest opinion from a loved

one” (Page 264). I plan on achieving these goals by working really hard and not giving up

because improving my writing is one of the most important things I have to accomplish. Being

with different writers that are more skilled will also benefit me in improving my writing. “there,

for the first time I found the company of other writers.” (Page 264)

  1. 8/10 You have a good reflection here. I really enjoyed the quotes that you chose (although you definitely need to give credit with a citation page). Thank you for connecting to your concerns and fears about the workshop process.
